Terror disconnect

---

I like numbers...

This is and has been 'bugging' me lately... this data is for 2006

Deaths and Mortality

(Data are for the U.S.)

  • Number of deaths: 2,426,264
  • Death rate: 810.4 deaths per 100,000 population
  • Life expectancy: 77.7years
  • Infant Mortality rate: 6.69 deaths per 1,000 live births

Number of deaths for leading causes of death:

  • Heart disease: 631,636
  • Cancer: 559,888
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 137,119
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,583
  • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 121,599
  • Diabetes: 72,449
  • Alzheimer's disease: 72,432
  • Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,326
  • Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 45,344
  • Septicemia: 34,234

Sure that, in and of itself, bothers me... But what I'm getting at is what THAT data looks like when compared to deaths in the United States as a result of Islamic terrorists...

Septemeber 11th, 2001 2,752
Major Hasan Ft Hood attack 13
-------
Total 2,765

That is 2,765 total American deaths due to Islamic terrorists in the USA since Sept 11th, 2001 as compared to 2,426,264 as the 'normal course of business' in 2006...

This data really makes me scratch my head in wonder...

We are led to believe, by our (trustworthy?) government, that it is in our National Security Interests to have 10's/100's of thousands of American troops in the middle east to...

At least 849,845 people have
been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq
since the U.S. and coalition attacks, based on lowest credible estimates.

Most recent update: December 29, 2009. This page is updated about once monthly.

About 283 times as many people have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq than in the ghastly attacks of September 11, 2001. More than 121 times as many people have been killed in these wars and occupations than in
all terrorist attacks in the world from 1993-2004, according to data compiled by the US State Department. (After the 2004 report showed terrorism at an all-time high, numerous experts suggested that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were fueling an increase in terrorism, and subsequent State Dept terror tallies have remained classified.)

Sources and methodology Notes about lower/higher casualty counts cited elsewhere

If you total those up you get 849,845 deaths and 1,614,130 injured...

I like logic too...

And I fail to see how killing and maiming 2,463.975 people, more than 2.4 MILLION people, has made us much safer at home... Especially in light of the Hasan attack at Fort Hood and the recent 'underwear bomber'.

Now the United States government is all a-twitter about 'securing' our airports... About spending additional 100's of millions, BILLIONS?, on security for our airports in an effort to 'keep Americans safe'?

This defies logic to me... There are millions of different places in the United States that terrorists 'could' strike. Many many places where terrorists 'could' kill many Americans at once. Malls, restaurants, theaters, sporting events... Anywhere and everywhere that large numbers of Americans gather on a regular basis.

In London the terrorists blew up a bus or two... In Madrid it was a train that was attacked.

So why does it 'seem' that the United States government thinks it is only airlines who need all this money pumped into them?

Whether a lot of people know it, or realize it, or even care about it, the United States is still in a very serious and precarious situation as far as the economy goes. This 'house of cards'/'ponzi scheme' of a debt based economy could 'blow up' at any moment. And there are plenty of reasons why it SHOULD blow up (blessing in disguise?).

As usual... I don't, and won't pretend to, have any/all of the answers to these questions or 'curious observations'.

But it seems to me, personally, that everything that is going on right now is somehow related to propping up the devastated economy of the United States.

Could that even include foreign wars and homeland security spending?

Let me know when you find out ;)

Please keep in mind the 'fact' that many times things are not at all what they 'seem' to be... Just because our government 'says' something is so, doesn't necessarily make it so.

Keep an open mind, remain nimble, think for yourself. Take care of yourself and your family.

Merely a few of the 'responcibilities' we have as Americans...

Greg
