On 9/11 in 2001 19 #terrorists (allegedly) killed 3,000 Americans in "the worst terror attack ever on American soil".
Sept 11 this year, 2013, marks the 12th anniversary of that unfortunate event.
We have been "at war" (though never actually declared other than for buzzwords ie; The War on Terror) in the middle east for the past 12 years as a result of that single "terrorist attack".
If we take 3,000 [American lives] / 12 years, we get an "average" of 250 Americans per year killed by evil terrorists.. (If you like you can throw Maj Hasan's contribution in here too but it won't change the result).
When we look at the latest data for suicides by military personnel we see..
US military suicides have never been so high since data was recorded: up to 349 for 2012.
One doesn't have to excel in math to see that, on a per year basis, more military personnel, on average, kill themselves than Americans who have been killed by terrorists.
Past 12 years average number of Americans killed by terrorists = 250
2012 number of suicides by military personnel = 349
This is the human cost, saying nothing about the [#fiat] $$ cost of all U.S. military action(s) in the middle east, northern Africa, wherever..
US military suicides in charts: how they overtook combat deaths
I #hope I have active duty military readers of this blog.. I know I have quite a few military followers on @twitter.
Because I'd like to say, "I feel your pain". But don't give up. Don't do yourself in.
We have much work to do.
The #plan for the USA certainly "appears" to be something close to martial law
Many people suspect civil war in the USA is a very real possibility.
So, in short we need you.. You are "trained", battle hardened, sworn to defend the homeland from enemies abroad & domestically..
Most of you swore to God..
"I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."
It would be very comforting to many Americans to know that you have our back when / if things go south and government tyranny and the police state arrive in America.
One day it may be #time for our own military Coup d'état..

HOW MARTIAL LAW IN AMERICA WILL AFFECT YOU
---
[Editor's Note: The following post is by TDV contributor, Wendy McElroy]
Martial law occurs when the military or militarized law enforcement replaces civilian authorities in order to impose military rule during an emergency. Civil liberties are suspended. In the United States, a pivot point that signals martial law is the suspension of habeas corpus – the right to a hearing on whether an imprisonment is lawful. In practice, habeas corpus means a person cannot be imprisoned without legitimate charges and due process. The U.S. Constitution recognizes the suspension of habeas corpus as an identifying feature of martial law in Article I, Section 9, “The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.”
Obama is preparing to declare martial law in America. He may decide not to do so but it is a prepared option that requires nothing more than the say-so of one man. The necessary Executive Order has been authorized. The National Defense Resources Preparedness grants Obama power over “resources and services needed to support...plans and programs” in “the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States.” The grant of authority is so complete that it includes the ability to commandeer technology, industry, and the nation's other resources down to its “food resources, livestock resources, and the distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer.”
The legal framework for martial law is in place.

Why I may have to disappear from @twitter due to @WildBlue
---
I have absolutely loved being on twitter since 2009..
Why?
I have met tons of the greatest, smartest, most active people on the face of the planet from all around the world.
I love SO many of you!
However, since our move to the country and the associated switch from cable modem to satellite internet access (via WildBlue) I am running into somewhat severe problems..
I checked my bandwidth usage before the move, while we still had cable, and discovered that using the net in my "normal" manner was using something close to 150 gigabytes of bandwidth per month. Once we signed up for WildBlue satellite internet I was restricted to 7.5 gigabyte bandwidth per month limit.
Due mainly to trading (which is my real job) that amount of bandwidth was never going to work so we upgraded to the maximum amount available.. A whopping 25 gig per month vs the 150 gig I used previously with cable.
I have already modified my twitter usage by cutting out or way back on some of my favorite twitter activities such as the extensive use of music and videos to make a #point.. Plus TONS of research on the topics that interest me.. And wonderful interaction with all of you wonderful peeps..
Alas I'm afraid this has not been enough.. For instance this morning I have been on-line since about 6:30 and it's now 9:00 (my time) and I have already used more than 350 megabytes of bandwidth. On the 16th of the month I have used nearly 16 gigabytes of my allowed 25 gig per month. Month ends on the 28th so I have about 12 days to go with only about 9 gig left before being cut off.. This is after being highway ROBBED by WildBlue as I am now paying 3 TIMES as much for internet access as I was via cable..
I have to have a lot of bandwidth because I trade currencies (as most of you know). Currency trading is my JOB and it has been going well for the past few months as can be seen on the chart below..
Since trading is my job & twitter is my love I'm facing a difficult time dealing with this limited bandwidth situation.. However in the end, obviously, I must trade and for that reason it is twitter that is most likely to go by the wayside..

How I count pips #FYI #FX #trading $$
---
If you happen to follow my FX trades it's important that you understand how I count pips. Especially if you follow my trades blindly.. lol
I count leverage where long pair A 3 lots +10 pips = 30 pips gain +10 x 3 lots, which of course could also be something like 1 lot +10, 1 lot +12 & 1 lot +20 would = +42 pips on total PA movement of 20 pips.
I'll use Friday's $USDCAD $GBPAUD longs as an example here..
From 2:00 to 4:00 EST on Friday my entries, by time, were..
GBPAUD buy 1 lot 1.68868
GBPAUD buy 1 lot 1.6883
GBPAUD buy 2 lots 1.68744
GBPAUD buy 2 lots 1.68709
USDCAD buy 2 lots 1.02929
USDCAD buy 2 lots 1.0291
USDCAD buy 2 lots 1.02847
USDCAD buy 2 lots 1.02808
GBPAUD buy 2 lots 1.68513
Sunday close by time, FIFO applies
USDCAD out 6 of 8 +9.8x2 +3.5x2 +1.6x2
GBPAUD out 2 of 8 -10 -6.2
GBPAUD out 2 +6.6x2
GBPAUD out 2 +12.2x2
GBPAUD out last 2 on adjusted stop +19.6x2
USDCAD out last 2 on adjusted stop +1.9x2
Totals actual P/L +39 pips, leverage / lots applied +88.2 pips - roll fees incurred -11.5 pips = net +76.7 pips, (pip total as defined by monetary value (monetary value / unit size))
And / or +76.7 pips / 16 lots total "investment lol" = +4.79 pips p/lot
My goal in FX is to use very small size to accumulate very large numbers of pips (hundreds & / or thousands) as this puts the emphasis on quality trades over the rapid accumulation of fiat.
Where a 1% gain / loss (currently) = 550 pips
Stay small & stay safe.. I want you to stick around for awhile ;)
Hope this helps

It's that #pesky #Rule of #Law..
---
Seems to me that these days in the United States of America it has become far too easy for government to simply ignore the rule of law when / if #they don't like it..
From the article below..
"Section 508 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which decrees that no American aid shall be granted "any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree." Which is what happened in Egypt."
Seems, to me, the United States government these days depends upon their ability to buy [#bribe] whatever they want with American fiat which can simply be printed ad nauseam by a corrupt criminal Federal Reserve Bank.
Regardless of the "law".

Today's Dirty Word: Coup - Click here for source
Paul Greenberg | Aug 10, 2013
When is a coup not a coup? When it's "a complex and difficult issue." That was the unconvincing word from White House press secretary Jay Carney when he was asked about Egypt's latest coup. Poor Jay Carney. He may be the least credible White House press secretary since Ron Ziegler, who had the sticky job of defending the indefensible Richard Nixon as the truth closed in on his boss during the late unpleasantness known as Watergate.
. .
When is a coup not a coup? When it's "a very fluid situation," according to State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, demonstrating that you can always count on Foggy Bottom to evade a question.
When is a coup not a coup? To quote the president himself, who's supposed to be a great speaker, when it's "a transition to democracy." The way dictatorship leads to freedom? That rationale sounds like a party slogan out of George Orwell's 1984." Who says our leader doesn't have a sense of irony, even if unintentional?
By now, in its eagerness to avoid calling a coup a coup, this administration has turned the English language every which way but loose. By my ringside count, it's lost three falls out of three with the language, but keeps coming back for more punishment. Rather than accept the simple meaning of a word.
. .
Last week, our secretary of state was still dutifully echoing the administration's line, explaining that a coup is no coup when it's just "restoring democracy." That was John Kerry speaking during a stopover in Pakistan. Presumably with a straight face. The show, or rather farce, must go on.
Webster's defines coup as "a sudden decisive exercise of force whereby the existing government is subverted," which would seem a fairly accurate description of what happened in Egypt on July 3, 2013. But when mere reality collides with the official line, it's reality that must give way.
Why? Because if the administration admitted that a coup is a coup, then it might have to respect American law, to wit Section 508 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which decrees that no American aid shall be granted "any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree." Which is what happened in Egypt. But since the administration isn't about to cut off billions in American aid to the one institution now holding Egypt together, it's had to scramble to ignore the obvious.
When the law gets in the way of this administration's desires, it doesn't try to change the law -- that would be too forthright -- but the language. So it covers the subject in verbal fog and hopes nobody will notice. Naturally, everybody does. But anything is better than acknowledging the simple truth. However obvious.
To borrow a construction from Miss Gertrude Stein, linguist extraordinaire, a coup is a coup is a coup. No matter how many times the White House, the State Department, and all the king's horses and all the king's equivocators deny it.
Better to sound ridiculous than to use a dirty word like coup in this officially democratic age. That may be the root of the White House's problem. It seems to assume that all coups are alike, and all are to be condemned alike.
A look at the derivation of the word coup might lend some needed perspective: Coup is short for the French coup d'état, literally a blow of state. The first use of the term seems to have been in connection not with the overthrow of a legitimate ruler but with the restoration of his full and rightful authority:
When the young Louis XIII, all of 8 years old in 1610, succeeded his assassinated father, Henry IV, to the throne of France, his mother, Marie de' Medici, became regent. But the real power behind the throne and the villain of the story was her fellow Florentine, the notorious schemer Concino Concini, whose fine Italian hand was much resented both at court and throughout France.
So when Louis achieved his majority at 13 and chafed at the interference of this interloper, his boon companion the Duke of Luynes arranged to have Concini dispatched by the Royal Guard on a bridge over the Seine. (The official version was that the hated Concini was killed attempting to escape. Some things don't change in the annals of political intrigue.)
The story may be a little more complicated than that, but suffice it to say that it had a happy ending. Louis XIII would become king in more than name and go on to be known as Louis the Just -- but not before having the grace to thank those who had removed this inconvenient obstacle from his royal path. ("From this moment on I've become king.") He then had the good fortune, and good sense, to choose as his prime minister one of the great statesmen of French history: Cardinal Richelieu.
. .
I am indebted to the Jewish Daily Forward's word man, who writes under the name Philologos, for the essence of this brief excursion into the history and etymology of coup, a noun that's gone from description to accusation, from neutral definition to forbidden word. Just as coups have gone from exceptional events to regular habit, as in Latin America and the Middle East.
. .
Lest we forget, Turkey was transformed into a modern state by a military dictator called Kemal Ataturk, who brought a secular regime into being out of the wreckage of the decadent old Ottoman Empire in the last century. Egypt will be fortunate indeed if the coup staged by its current military rulers turns out half so well. For that matter, Turkey will be fortunate if it can stay a secular regime as its Islamist leadership sends that country back into an oppressive past.
The moral of this story: Not all coups are alike. Each deserves to be judged on its own merits -- and demerits. But to do that would require sophistication and candor, and this administration has shown little of either when it comes to the not-so-simple politics of the Middle East.

Short excerpt from the excellent book The Suicide of Reason -- Radical Islam's threat to the West
I sure hope Eric Holder's DOJ doesn't come after me for using it without permission..
---
In the West, we are perilously getting down to our last man. Liberal democracy, among us, is achieving the goal that Fukuyama predicted for it: It is eliminating the alpha males from our midst, and at a dizzingly accelerating rate. But in Muslim societies, the alpha male is still alive and well. While we in America are drugging our alpha boys with Ritalin, the Muslims are doing everything in their power to encourage their alpha boys to be tough, aggressive, and ruthless. We teach our boys to be good students, to aim at getting good jobs with large, safe corporations, to plan prudently for their retirement. They want their boys to become holy warriors. We are proud if our sons get into a good college; they are proud if their sons die as martyrs.
---
The book is written by Lee Harris and IMHO certainly worth a read..

Giants giants EVERYWHERE! Obviously the Sumerian Anunnaki! What's WRONG with the CHURCH?!
---
THIS got me started!
Deu 2:20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
And then add..
Deu 2:10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
Deu 2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
Bible Dictionary
Emims definition
terrors, a warlike tribe of giants who were defeated by Chedorlaomer and his allies in the plain of Kiriathaim. In the time of Abraham they occupied the country east of Jordan, afterwards the land of the Moabites (Gen. 14:5; Deut. 2:10). They were, like the Anakim, reckoned among the Rephaim, and were conquered by the Moabites, who gave them the name of Emims, i.e., "terrible men" (Deut. 2:11). The Ammonites called them Zamzummims (2:20).
---
Bible Dictionary
Zamzummims definition
a race of giants; "a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims" (Deut. 2:20, 21). They were overcome by the Ammonites, "who called them Zamzummims." They belonged to the Rephaim, and inhabited the country afterwards occupied by the Ammonites. It has been conjectured that they might be Ham-zuzims, i.e., Zuzims dwelling in Ham, a place apparently to the south of Ashteroth (Gen. 14:5), the ancient Rabbath-ammon.

Anakim
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It has been suggested that this article be merged with Anak. (Discuss) Proposed since March 2013.
According to the Tanakh, Anakim are a race of giants descended from Anak.[1] They dwelt in the south of the land of Canaan, near Hebron (Gen. 23:2; Josh. 15:13). According to Genesis 14:5-6 they inhabited the region afterwards known as Edom and Moab in the days of Abraham.
Their formidable appearance, as described by the Twelve Spies sent to search the land, filled the Israelites with terror. The Israelites seem to have identified them with the Nephilim, the giants (Gen. 6:4; Num. 13:33) of the antediluvian age. Joshua finally expelled them from the land, excepting a remnant that found a refuge in the cities of Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod (Josh. 11:22). The Philistine giants whom David encountered (2 Sam. 21:15-22) were descendants of the Anakim.
There were various tribes of Anakim (Josh. 15:14).

Rephaite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rephaite (Heb. plural רפאים, Rephaim) is a Northwest Semitic term that occurs in the Hebrew Bible as well as other, non-Jewish ancient texts from the region. It can refer either to a race of giants, or to dead ancestors who are residents of the Netherworld.
Race of giants
In the Hebrew Bible, "Rephaim" can describe an ancient race of giants in Iron Age Israel, or the places where these individuals were thought to have lived. See: Gen 14:5, 15:20; Deut 2:10-11, 2:18-21, 3:11; Josh 12:4, 13:12, 15:8, 17:15, 18:16; 2 Sam 5:18, 5:22, 23:13; 1 Chron 11:15, 14:9, 20:4. In the biblical narrative, the Israelites are instructed to exterminate the previous inhabitants of the "promised land," i.e. "Canaan," which include various named peoples, including some unusually tall/large individuals. See the passages listed above in the book of Joshua, and also Deut. 3:11, which implies that Og, the King of Bashan, was one of the last survivors of the Rephaim, and that his bed was 9 cubits long in ordinary cubits. (An ordinary cubit is the length of a man's forearm according to the New American Standard Bible, or approx. 18 inches, which differs from a royal cubit. This makes the bed over 13 feet long. Anak, according to Deut 2:11, was a Rephaite.
The area of Moab at Ar, (the region East of the Jordan) before the time of Moses, was also considered the land of the Rephaites. Deuteronomy 2:18-21 refers to the fact that Ammonites called them "Zamzummim", which is related to the Hebrew word זמזם, which literally translates into "Buzzers", or "the people whose speech sounds like buzzing." In Arabic the word زمزم (zamzama) translates as "to rumble, roll (thunder); murmur". As in Deut 2:11, the Moabites referred to them as the Emim.

Anak (/ˈeɪˌnæk/; Heb. 'nq spelt as both ענק and as הענק depending upon the reference) was a well-known figure during the conquest of Canaan by the Israelites who, according to the Book of Numbers, was a forefather of the Anakites[1][2] (Heb. Anakim) who have been considered "strong and tall," they were also said to have been a mixed race of giant people, descendants of the Nephilim (Numbers 13:33). The use of the word "nephilim" in this verse describes a crossbreed of God's sons and the daughters of man, as cited in (Genesis 6:1-2) and (Genesis 6:4). The text states that Anak was a Rephaite (Deuteronomy 2:11) and a son of Arba (Joshua 15:13). Etymologically, Anak means [long] neck.[3]
The sons of Anak are first mentioned in Numbers 13. The Israelite leader Moses sends twelve spies representing the twelve tribes of Israel to scout out the land of Canaan, and give a full report to the congregation. The spies enter from the Negev desert and journey northward through the Judaean hills until they arrive at the brook of Eshcol near Hebron, where reside Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the sons of Anak. After the scouts have explored the entire land, they bring back samples of the fruit of the land; most notably a gigantic cluster of grapes which requires two men to carry it on a pole between them. The scouts then report to Moses and the congregation, that "the land indeed is a land flowing with milk and honey," but ten of the twelve spies discourage the Israelites from even attempting to possess the land, for they reported that the men were taller and stronger than the Israelites, and moreover the sons of Anak dwell in the land, and that they felt like grasshoppers in their presence.
The Anakites are later mentioned briefly in the books of Deuteronomy, Joshua, and Judges. In Joshua, Caleb, one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Canaan, later drove out the descendants of Anak — his three sons — from Hebron, also called Kiriath Arba.
The Egyptian Execration texts of the Middle Kingdom[4] (2055-1650 BC) mention a list of political enemies in Canaan, and among this list are a group called the "ly Anaq" or people of Anaq. The three rulers of ly Anaq were Erum, Abiyamimu, and Akirum.[5] Anak could be related to the Sumerian god Enki.[citation needed] Robert Graves, considering the relationship between the Anakites and Philistia (Joshua 11:21, Jeremiah 47:5), identifies the Anakim with Anax, the giant ruler of the Anactorians in Greek mythology.[6]

Nephilim
Were the Nephilim sons of God?
Fallen Angels? Giants of Genesis 6:4?
A common belief which we share is that the "sons of
God" who did marry the "daughters of men" were fallen angels.
Why did God send the judgment of the Flood in the days of Noah? The strange events recorded in Genesis 6 were understood by the ancient rabbinical sources, as well as the Septuagint translators, as referring to fallen angels procreating weird hybrid offspring with human women-known as the Nephilim. This was far more than simply a historical issue, the unique events leading to the Flood are a prerequisite to understanding the prophetic implications of our Lord's predictions regarding His Second Coming. This is believed to have happened both before the Flood and after the flood. In Israel at the time of David, and before this when the Hebrews were scouting the land - there were tribes of these Nephilim - Goliath the giant of Gath is one example. Early Church fathers also understood this to be the case. It appears that these fallen angels were active all over the world. These bizarre giants living on the earth are also echoed in the legends and myths of nearly every ancient culture. The ancient Greeks, the Egyptians, the Hindus, the South Sea Islanders, the American Indians, and most all the others have these legends.
The Hebrew word Nephelim (plural of nephel) (Nephilim) literally means "rejects". The Hebrew plural for Nephites would be "Nephi'im".
Satan probably put this plan to interrupt Abraham's "seed into motion, as soon as it was made known that the Seed of the Woman (Christ) was to come through ABRAHAM.
Bible Probe Note: Our use of the Word "irruption" in this article below means: act of rushing; act of breaking in; intrusion, raid; sudden increase.
Genesis 6:4 (Original KJV):
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that,
when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and
they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which
were of old, men of renown.
Bible Probe Note: Note the words; "and also after that". This
probably tells of two "irruptions" by Satan's seed. One before Noah's
time and another after the flood. They were called “The Watchers” in The Book of Enoch.

Often this seems such an impossible task I have, to relate so much in such short brief spaces of time / space. I have done so much research and retained, I believe, most of what seems important. From the bible itself to the book of Enoch which was left out, to the Nephilim / fallen angels & Anunnaki / Nibiru / Planet X. From the true prophets to the prophetic music of Tool. The glories of space and the glories of God. Prayer / meditation / communication via God's true gift to humanity = DNA. The lies of the world that swirl around us in a matrix not of our own design. So much we can remember of an ancient past so filled with wonder yet we forget.. it all. The Sumerians / Anunnaki with which humanity / time may have begun through the genetic engineering of pre-human forms. It's quite a fantasy-land in which I seem to live but I like it here just fine ;)
Yet my focus today, as small and insignificant as it may be, is on simply remembering some of the things we have forgotten.. Or, as Tool so elequently points out in the lyrics above.. Fuck our short memories..
Out of space, out of place, out of time.. My #messages are incoherent, chaotic and cryptic. By design? Not that I know of.. only that I am compelled to relate, to relay.
All of the history of humanity is within each and every one of us.. Lying there, untapped, resources not used but ignored. Through ignorance or by design.
There is much information contained within the many links above.. I sincerely hope someone will find them useful and / or informative..

It will come as no surprise to many of you that I see the word of God reflected in the music of Tool.. The song Aenima seems to demonstrate the concept very well..
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks
Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.

Silly shit, stupid shit...
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Since this post focuses on what the bible itself says about "remembering" I'd like to point out a few specific lines from the song above that may be strung together quite effectively..

Is America In Trouble?
Welcome reader,
You do not have to believe what you find in this hub, but I would like to give you a heads up warning that should you not, then do not be surprised to hear it later. America- A Nation In Serious Trouble is about how wrong the general public has been led to believe something that is simply not true. Is America In Serious Trouble....?
You better believe it! America is like waterfall of red ink, so much so, that if the problem is not corrected soon, you will find life in America, extremely difficult. How difficult? Well, I'll answer that later on, but for now, do realize America could find itself without money to operate it's national government, which protects the entire nation, not only from domestic threats, but foreign threats as well.
America Has Too Many Problems! Increased Awareness Is Key!

Nidel Hasan Ft Hood reality check
---
Our legal systems are so screwed up that even when someone commits a heinous crime and confesses to murdering 13 fellow American citizens solely for political / religious reasons it's not allowed!
"Military LAW PREVENTS him from entering a guilty plea"
"likely years, if not DECADES, of appeals ahead"
"Hasan has twice dismissed his lawyers and now plans to represent himself at trial. He’s suggested he wants to argue the killings were in “defense of others” — namely, members of the Taliban fighting Americans in Afghanistan. The trial judge, Col. Tara Osborn, has so far denied that strategy.
Hasan has grown a beard while in custody that he says expresses his Muslim faith, but violates military rules on decorum. After a military judge ordered him forcibly shaved, an appeals court stayed that order and took another judge off the case."
It is not difficult AT ALL for Muslims to make a complete mockery of our "justice system". Just consider where would be with 10 Hasan attacks, or 50, or 100..

Fort Hood trial set to open after lengthy delays (source Washington Times
DALLAS — Hundreds of unarmed soldiers, some about to deploy to Afghanistan, were waiting inside a building for vaccines and routine checkups when a fellow soldier walked inside with two handguns and enough ammunition to commit one of the worst mass shootings in American history.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan climbed onto a desk and shouted “Allahu Akbar!” — an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great!” Then he fired, pausing only to reload.

Hasan doesn’t deny that he carried out the November 2009 rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, that left 13 people dead and more than 30 others wounded. There are dozens of witnesses who saw it happen. Military law prohibits him from entering a guilty plea because authorities are seeking the death penalty. But if he is convicted and sentenced to death in a trial that starts Tuesday, there are likely years, if not decades, of appeals ahead.
He may never make it to the death chamber at all.
While the Hasan case is unusually complex, experts also say the military justice system is unaccustomed to dealing with death penalty cases and has struggled to avoid overturned sentences.
Eleven of the 16 death sentences handed down by military juries in the last 30 years have been overturned, according to an academic study and court records. No active-duty soldier has been executed since 1961.
A reversed verdict or sentence on appeal in the Hasan case would be a fiasco for prosecutors and the Army. That’s one reason why prosecutors and the military judge have been deliberate leading up to trial, said Geoffrey Corn, a professor at the South Texas College of Law and former military lawyer.
“The public looks and says, ‘This is an obviously guilty defendant. What’s so hard about this?’” Corn said. “What seems so simple is in fact relatively complicated.”
Hasan is charged with 13 specifications of premeditated murder and 32 specifications of attempted premeditated murder. Thirteen officers from around the country who hold Hasan’s rank or higher will serve on the jury for a trial that will likely last one month and probably longer. They must be unanimous to convict Hasan of murder and sentence him to death. Three-quarters of the panel must vote for an attempted murder conviction.
The jury will likely hear from victims and relatives of the dead. A handful of victims still carry bullet fragments in their body. Others have nightmares.
“It never goes away — being upset that it’s taken so long for this trial to come,” said Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, who was shot in the head, stomach and upper body. “So now’s the day of reckoning, which is positive — very positive.”
The trial’s start has been delayed over and over, often due to requests from Hasan. Any of the hundreds of decisions large or small could be fair game on appeal. The entire record will be scrutinized by military appeals courts that have overturned most of the death sentences they’ve considered.
“A good prosecutor, in military parlance, would be foolish to fight only the close battle,” Corn said. “He’s got to fight the close battle and the future battle. And the future battle is the appellate record.”
Hasan has twice dismissed his lawyers and now plans to represent himself at trial.
After a military judge ordered him forcibly shaved, an appeals court stayed that order and took another judge off the case.
The last man executed in the military system was Pvt. John Bennett, hanged in 1961 for raping an 11-year-old girl. Five men are on the military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., but none are close to being executed.
An inmate was taken off death row just last year. Kenneth Parker was condemned for killing two fellow Marines in North Carolina, including Lance Cpl. Rodney Page. But Parker was given life without parole last September by an appeals court. The court found his trial judge should have not allowed him to be tried for both murders at the same time, nor should the judge have allowed testimony that the appeals court said was irrelevant to the crimes.
Parker’s accomplice in the killings, Wade Walker, was also sentenced to death, only for the sentence to be overturned.
Examples abound of other death sentences set aside. They include William Kreutzer Jr., who killed one soldier and wounded 18 others in a 1995 shooting spree at Fort Bragg, N.C.; James T. Murphy, who killed his wife in Germany by smashing her head with a hammer; and Melvin Turner, who killed his 11-month-old daughter with a razor blade.
Part of the problem, experts say, is that death penalty cases are rare in military courts.
A study in the Journal of Criminal Law & Criminology identified just 41 cases between 1984 and 2005 where a defendant faced a court-martial on a capital charge. Meanwhile, more than 500 people have been executed since 1982 in the civilian system in Texas, the nation’s most active death-penalty state.
While lawyers and judges in Texas may get multiple death penalty cases a year, many military judges and lawyers often are on their first, said Victor Hansen, another former prosecutor who now teaches at the New England School of Law. The military courts that are required to review each death-penalty verdict are also more cautious and likely to pinpoint possible errors that might pass muster at a civilian court, Hansen and Corn said.
Hansen compared the military’s conundrum to small states that have a death-penalty law on the books, but never use it.
“You don’t have a lot of experience or institutional knowledge,” said Hansen, who compared it to “the reinventing of the wheel every time one is done.”
If Hasan is convicted and sentenced to death, his case will automatically go before appeals courts for the Army and the armed forces. If those courts affirm the sentence, he could ask the Supreme Court for a review or file motions in federal civilian courts.
The president, as the military commander in chief, must sign off on a death sentence.
“If history is any guide, it’s going to be a long, long, long time,” Hansen said.

With all the #media & #government #fluff about the building of #democracy & constitutional realities in Egypt we need to keep some history in mind.
History such as how the population of the country really feels..
As seen in this article fully 62% of the Egyptian population believe "Egypt's laws should strictly follow the Quran". While "86% of the majority who support Sharia law favor the death penalty for Muslims who convert to another religion".
It's obviously a proxy war in which the USA controls the Egyptian military if not the propaganda machinery.
West vs East.. Christianity vs Islam.. Say what you want..

Let’s face the facts. We are weak. We have psychological problems. We are humans. And we all know that. There are however people who use this knowledge and people who pretend it does not exist.
Most of the people don’t want to look in this direction, pretending it does not exist. They feel vulnerable admitting their weaknesses and flaws. This results in overprotection of the sensitive areas.
The small but much, much richer part of the people are using it. Advertisement, marketing, incentives, insurances, fashion, cinema, these are only a few of the fields where the knowledge of the people weaknesses and the abilities to manipulate them is the key to success. They need to make people spend more and more, year after year. The easiest way to do this is by pushing the weak spots of people and then offer protection from further pushing. All of us will buy it regardless of the cost.
The economy grows because people spend more. When people spend more there is more profit to be made from the corporations. But we are consuming way, WAY more than we need and all of this over consumption is what drags us deeper into the whole of environmental disasters.
The goods we over consume are the biggest source of pollution we can imagine. These goods suck energy, fossil fuels, materials and labor to be produced. And when we don’t need them anymore, (which is not a while after we bought them, because we actually never needed them in the first pace) they start sucking the same resources again to get rid of them. In this journey we create all of our troubles with pollution.
I’ll offer you a link to a short movie created on a broader version of this subject. http://www.storyofstuff.org/movies-all/story-of-stuff/
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle are the the 3 R. But Reduce will have the greatest impact and Reuse and Recycle are damage controls for what we have missed with the first one.
Enjoy the video.
