Subject: I don't understand why it was suspended..

Description of problem: I haven't been doing anything differently than I ever have? I have accumulated nearly 10,000 followers & am proud of the quality of the followers I have. I tweet on a great number of topics & have a very diverse following. I can assure you that many of them will miss me.. Can you kindly explain why my account has been suspended? Please email

Hello,
I reviewed your best practices for following and note this line in particular " but if you don’t follow or un-follow hundreds of users in a single day, and you aren’t using automated methods of following users, you should be fine"

I do at times follow the users of other twitter users whom I respect. I also at times have used the web site justunfollow.com to unfollow users who I am following but who are not following me. I have done this at times when I have exceeded the follow limit but had no idea this was a bad thing to do..

I have been a twitter user since 2009 and under no circumstances am I interested in abusing the platform. I have never used any sort of automated software with twitter. I don't like spammers either and certainly am not one myself.

I have read and now have a better understanding of your follow limit policies and will certainly comply. I assure you I have never intended to game the system or do anything inappropriate.

I will please ask you to reconsider this suspension as soon as possible.

Best regards

Gregory S. Phillips aka: @Ancient_Warrior

Subject: #6514928 Twitter Support: update on "I don't understand why it was suspended.."

Zendesk, Nov 02 09:15 am (PDT):

Hello,
This account was suspended for sending multiple unsolicited messages using the @reply and/or mention feature. These features are intended to make communication between people on Twitter easier. Twitter monitors the use of these features to make sure they are used as intended and not for abuse. Using either feature to post messages to a bunch of users in an unsolicited or egregious manner is considered an abuse of its use, which results in account suspension.

For more information about these features, please visit our @Replies and Mentions help page: http://support.twitter.com/articles/14023

I have now un-suspended your account. Please note that it may take an hour or so for your follower and following numbers to return to normal.

Be sure to review the Twitter Rules, as repeat violations may result in permanent suspension:

Thank you,

Zendesk

Not sure I can reply directly to this email but here I go anyway ;)

At any rate I will be posting a copy of this email on my blog as a public service in hopes I can get a clarification of why my account was suspended.

Hello and thank you for taking care of this so quickly. That I do appreciate. I tweet about very important topics and have a very wide range of interesting followers. I have greatly enjoyed twitter even though at times it feels like a pain ;)

This is my concern..

The statement below, from you, reads "This account was suspended for sending multiple unsolicited messages using the @reply and/or mention feature." And also "Using either feature to post messages to a bunch of users in an unsolicited manner"

I am afraid I do not understand exactly what that means.

I am pretty consistently in the top 1,000 follow Friday recipients in the USA on twitter as well as ranking very highly globally (for what's that's worth - $$ { fiat } zero ;) As a result of this I often RT a great number of tweets containing many @Replies. This is especially so on Friday's.

Among my 10,000 (almost) followers I do this as a courtesy to the varied communities with which I communicate on twitter.

Topics might include..

Traders / equities, commodities & forex

Conspiracy nuts (like me LMAO)

Status Quo policy on assorted matters

Politics (what I really think lol)

Government policy

Federal Reserve Bank policy

People who believe in God

People who believe in aliens

People who believe God was/is an alien

And others as well.. cooking, reading, shopping..

Now I do play that somewhat silly Follow Friday game too..

---

"This account was suspended for sending multiple unsolicited messages using the @reply and/or mention feature." / "Using either feature to post messages to a bunch of users in an unsolicited manner"

---

So my question is to meet the following requirement do I need to stop being friendly & courteous in RT'ing tweets other people send to me? And do I need to quit playing that silly Follow Friday game?

Are those the issue?

Thank you in advance for the clarification

Gregory S. Phillips aka @Ancient_Warrior
